SPENDING £1 IN 24H ON INSTAGRAM PROMOTION - THE SHOCKING RESULTS + INSIGHTS

shocking instagram insights engagement instagram exposed promotion does it work

We all know Instagram is a nightmare now, it's impossible to grow and get engagement, reach is terrible and basically everyone is beginning to give up and hate it - me included. So, I thought it would be interesting (and a great blog post idea,) to use Instagram's promotion feature. The promotion feature is available on all of your posts and basically, you pay Instagram anywhere from £1 to £100+ to put your selected post on the feeds of people that do not follow you so that they engage with said post, and then go on to possibly visit your profile and follow. I've seen a high rise in people using the promote feature recently (I'm guessing because their posts are doing badly,) so I highly doubt Instagram will be bringing back chronological order - they'll be making a lot of money from this. In my opinion, using this promote feature is just a more truthful way to buy likes, because that's essentially what you're doing - just from Instagram its self and not a third party website.

So, this is the post I decided to promote, I decided to promote this post just because it was my newest and it already did well compared to my average. I set my budget to the minimum, £1 and I chose to spread the cost of this pound over 24 hours, also the minimum.

So, after three hours of confirming my promotion,  it had spent 12p and reached 45 people, but only 16 of those 45 actually liked my post - and 0 of these visited my profile or followed me.

According to my usual insights, 5-7pm is peak time for people to be online and liking/following - so at 6pm I checked my promotion insights again.
The reach still wasn't good, considering the time that had passed since it went live, it had only reached 117 people - and only 39 of those 117 liked my post. For whatever reason, my post had been put on the feeds of 76% women, compared to 24% men. I still had 0 profile visits.

Nearly midnight, peak times had passed and many many hours. The reach had risen a lot better since last time - it had reached 314 people, however still only 91 of those 314 liked the post. The women to men ratio had gotten worse, I still had zero profile visits - and it had spent over 50% of my budget.

I went to sleep at midnight, hoping things would be looking better when I woke up. But no, I was actually shocked and disappointed, (but not surprised, because it's Instagram.)

So after 24 hours, this is what the promotion insight results showed me. In total, it reached only 598 people - which is less than the bare minimum I was promised when I paid for the promotion. Out of the measly 598 people it reached, only 173 of those people liked the post - and I ended up with ZERO profile visits, which is what I told Instagram to promote the post for (what the blue action banner would of displayed on my post to feeds it reached.) The end ratio of men to women was 89% women and 11% men, why?

I compared my paid promotion insights to the original ones, and as you can see all of the stats were much higher. 630 people saw it who weren't following me, 142 of those people visited my profile and 2 of those people even visited my blog.

Honestly, did Instagram get these stats completely mixed up? I'm shook. Are my promotion insights mixed up with my originals? It looks that way. It's shocking. The end insights to my promotion as you can see, were terrible and my post wasn't even seen by the bare minimum promised. I opted to get more profile visits, and I got zero. I know it was only £1, but that's not the point, I wasn't given what I paid for. The moral of the story? Don't fall for this, don't give Instagram your money.
