BEAUTYBAY COLOUR THEORY PALETTES REVIEW & SWATCHES

beauty bay identity palette review

The beauty site we all know and love, (and I have watched grow into a huge company over the years,) gave us all what we wanted. Three amazing, affordable eyeshadow palettes that include everything the beauty world wanted. Unless you've been living under a rock, you'll probably be pretty familiar with this magical trio - say hello to OriginIdentity and Evolve. Three palettes, containing a very generous 42 shades, (wow...) at an even more generous price point of £25.00. Not only that, but these babes also contain a huge mirror large enough to complete your full face of make up in. This is the Colour Theory family.

BEAUTY BLENDER BOUNCE FOUNDATION

new beauty blender foundation review
So here we have it folks, the worlds most perfect foundation - a big statement, but the truest ever spoke. Despite the backlash upon its release, and having loved Beauty Blenders for so many years and never applying my base with anything else, I had to have this. I waited weeks after the initial release in the US, and we finally have it in the UK at Cult Beauty. You bet it was worth the wait, and the price of £32.00. Shockingly, not the most expensive foundation I've ever purchased but certainly far from drugstore. This is Beauty Blenders first make up product, and if this is foreshadowing what's to come then I'm very excited.

LIME CRIME VENUS III

Despite it's problematic background, you cannot deny Lime Crime are killing the game recently and have been releasing some stunning new products - Lime Crime is also much more accessible in the UK now because it's available on Beauty Bay.

One of their most recent launches was the third edition to the Venus eyeshadow palette family, it's visually stunning and that's what really drew me in. This was a total impulse purchase, I've never read any reviews on their eyeshadow formula so I had no idea what I was going to get, I just knew it was really pretty.

Venus III includes 8 shades, 3 mattes, 2 metallic toppers, and 3 shimmers. If Anastasia Modern Renaissance and the new Norvina palette had a baby, it would probably look like this. It's full of pink and purple tones, with a hint of neutral. The pan size is pretty large, and despite the fact they're housed in a cardboard box, it's a very, very pretty cardboard box with a large mirror and a lot of metallic details - I personally love the design and the packaging is actually incredibly sturdy.

LEAVING NHS MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES AND GOING PRIVATE

I’ve been in and out of all sorts of NHS mental health services since I was 14, and I can’t recall one positive experience. I know the NHS is struggling, and I’m not saying that it’s terrible, because we all know they save lives everyday. But the mental health side is severely lacking, it’s underfunded and not prioritised. People are taking their own lives everyday, and honestly it could be prevented. I’ve seen endless amounts of people on social media telling of their terrible experiences getting mental health support, the big one recently being how shocking it is when you go to your GP and you’re handed a leaflet. (Don’t get me started on that whole thing.)

MORPHE 35B + SWATCHES - IS IT WORTH THE HYPE?

morphe 35b colour artistry palette review is it worth the hype

So after watching 10 too many James Charles video every single day recently, my love and passion for make up has come back with a bang. I was feeling inspired again, to create looks totally new to me and out of my comfort zone. The perfect palette? The Morphe 35b, apparently. So, is this palette really great, or just hyped up by big beauty influencers because they have a discount code?

NEW IN HAUL, JULY & REVIEWS

too faced peaches and cream review urban decay velvetizer review
It's been a long while since I did a good make up haul because I fell out of love with it for such a long time, but my love has come back with a force - I want everything. But I can't afford all of it so here's what I squeezed out this month:

NEW 'MAC MATTE' - DO THEY WORK?

mac matte fix plus setting spray review
It's been a long time since I was interested in a new release from MAC, when I was 14 you bet I was first online on release days getting new lippy shades, but until now nothing has excited me enough; I feel like MAC are behind in terms of trends formula and packaging in comparison to all these new brands we now have easy access to online.

SPENDING £1 IN 24H ON INSTAGRAM PROMOTION - THE SHOCKING RESULTS + INSIGHTS

shocking instagram insights engagement instagram exposed promotion does it work

We all know Instagram is a nightmare now, it's impossible to grow and get engagement, reach is terrible and basically everyone is beginning to give up and hate it - me included. So, I thought it would be interesting (and a great blog post idea,) to use Instagram's promotion feature. The promotion feature is available on all of your posts and basically, you pay Instagram anywhere from £1 to £100+ to put your selected post on the feeds of people that do not follow you so that they engage with said post, and then go on to possibly visit your profile and follow. I've seen a high rise in people using the promote feature recently (I'm guessing because their posts are doing badly,) so I highly doubt Instagram will be bringing back chronological order - they'll be making a lot of money from this. In my opinion, using this promote feature is just a more truthful way to buy likes, because that's essentially what you're doing - just from Instagram its self and not a third party website.

ZOELLA BEAUTY SPLASH BOTANICS

zoella beauty splash botanics review lip oil drench lagoon love
It’s no secret that despite my age, I still love me some Zoella. The first time I purchased some of her beauty products I was sceptical, I thought they’d be a complete fluke- but since, they’ve fast become my favourite bath and body pamper products because of the innovative designs and scents. Yes I’m 20 years old, and yes I went out on release day to be one of the first to get my hands on Splash Botanics. (Unfortunately I didn’t get everything, but I’m going back for it like the over aged fan girl I am.)

LOOK FANTASTIC X ILLAMASQUA BEAUTY BOX

look fantastic x illamasqua beauty box limited edition reviews whats inside
I’m so excited to be writing about this very limited edition Look Fantastic x Illamasqua box. I’ve talked about the standard monthly look fantastic beauty boxes recently, but this one is by far my favourite and I was very excited about the contents. this box contains the “must have,” products, (and I was warned they’re going to be sold out forever very very soon, so if you already like what you see without reading on, I suggest you head over and grab it now. it’s only £35 with a value of over £80, and I’m about to sit here and rave about everything in this box so is it worth it? Without a doubt!

THE MANTRA FROM MY THERAPIST THAT'S CHANGING MY LIFE

a method to challenge anxious thoughts and recover cbt mindfulness technique train your brain
I’ve been in and out of all sorts of mental health services since I was fifteen and to be honest, it’s all been pretty useless. (I honestly think NHS mental health services are less than acceptable, but don’t get me started.) I’m now 20, and frustrated. Five years without a helpful therapy or a doctor I ever felt comfortable enough with, but you can’t be picky on the NHS can you? You have to get what you’re (finally,) given and suffer.

A NEW STRUGGLE

*potential trigger warning; eating disorder, body image*

The last time i was in a bad place with my weight was years ago back when my entire mental health was at rock bottom. I went days without eating and didn’t realise - i went through a phase of taking laxatives, making myself sick, loving the feeling of knowing i was so hungry it hurt. I was so skinny, but at the time i didn’t see it, i didn’t think i was skinny enough. When i see old photographs now, i can’t believe how much weight i’ve really put on, my dress size has almost doubled and it makes me feel sick.

A CHANGE OF HEART, A FRESH START

When I first started my blog four years ago (wow, what?) my life and happiness revolved around make up. Looking at it, buying it, using it, writing about it - I was out first to get and review new releases, I spent every penny I got on building up a huge make up collection like the ones we see on YouTube. In my ‘prime,’ I was posting new content everyday because I just always had so many new products I wanted to talk about.

Do I still love make up? Totally. I still spend money on new products etc, but I just no longer get that buzz and excitement. I don’t really like spending money on it anymore because it doesn’t bring me much joy (and it’s like £31 for a foundation, so i want to be buzzing about it.) In the past three months I think I’ve purchased about 7 new make up bits but I haven’t even posted about them on my blog because I honestly have no desire to review them, it’s so boring and tedious to me now - you may of noticed i’ve barely posted on my blog over the past few months, and that’s because I can’t even force myself to force out content, i’m fully aware my last few posts have been dull and slacking, the photography not great.

About 6 months ago I went through a rough patch, I had no sense of identity, I didn't know who or what I was, what to wear, how to be - I honestly felt so disconnected and frustrated. I started online clothes shopping obsessively in a desperate attempt to ‘find myself,’ again and find a way to be comfortable, but still feel good. I spent a lot of money and had several breakdowns.

Thank God, I really do believe I have now fully found my style. It has done wonders for my confidence and over all mental health, I feel much more secure and sure of myself. My confidence raising has meant I’ve been able to go to public places and shoot outfit pictures, which is huge for me. Like, a big deal. It’s still embarrassing and a bit awkward, but it gets easier each time. My Instagram content has been getting so much love and praise, whilst my blog has been forgotten about.

So, it’s time for a fresh start. I’m not saying there’s going to be no more make up content, because there definitely will be. I just want to focus mainly on style/fashion, life, mental health etc. That’s really where my passion sits right now, and it makes me feel good and motivated. Honestly, I have never published fashion/style blog posts before - so they might not be flawless to begin with, but hopefully my passion will come through in my words and most importantly, there will be regular posting again.

Thank you so much to new followers, and the lot of you that have been here since year one. I hope this change doesn’t disappoint you if you’ve always been a reader purely for the make up.

NEW IN MAKE UP - APRIL

new nars highlighter powders ibiza marc jacobs bronzer
We’re saying hello to May already, crazy right? This past month has been extremely spendy, from Givenchy bags to too many Mcdonald’s - (if you want to see that side of my life, follow me on Instagram (@crtnygrdnr) But you’re all here for the makeup right? So here’s a round up of what newbies I added to my overflowing collection this month:

SUPERDRUG'S SOLAIT FAUX TANNING LINE

superdrug solait fake tan review dry oil tan wipes dark mousse
If you know me at all, you'll know I'm all about that fake tan life. I wasn't naturally blessed with golden bronzed skin, quite the complete opposite. I've been trying out so many different products from various brands for years, I'm pretty much on a never ending search for my perfect fake tan. After months and months of using my beloved Bondi Sands Dark Foam, I just got bored and my face started to break out - so what started as a mission to find a suitable tan for my face that didn't break me out, turned into an entire tan haul.

NEW AND NOTEWORTHY

best skincare combination skin mario badescu first aid beauty face mist
I have a very love/hate relationship with that dreaded period every couple of months where you ever so conveniently run out of skincare all at once. I mean, i do love skincare - but buying it all at once is a bit of a chore, i’d rather spend my money on a new eyeshadow palette or a steak and cocktail date night. To make it a little more exciting, this month i purchased some new products to try out - and the impossible happened. I love them all. So naturally i had to share my new finds with you, they come highly recommended. (Just for reference, my skin is combination and pretty sensitive.)

LASER HAIR REMOVAL AT PULSE LIGHT CLINIC LONDON

pulse light clinic laser hair removal
Even though body hair is completely natural, normal and everyone has it, it's still a pretty taboo subject that nobody really wants to talk about - especially when it comes to women. It's nothing to be ashamed of, and of course if you don't want to spend every day shaving you really don't have to, it's your body and therefore your choice. However, I know for a lot of us (including myself,) shaving everyday is such a chore and can cause so many issues like razor burn, ingrown hairs, irritation etc. If like me, you like to be smooth all of the time - laser hair removal could be life changing, and I've teamed up with Pulse Light Clinic based in London to tell you about the process.

prestige flowers. co.uk review
In case you didn't know, here's your last minute reminder that Mothers Day is this Sunday! Don't fret, there's still plenty of time to pick the perfect present. And what woman doesn't love receiving a good bunch of flowers? I know the women in my life (and myself,) all love being surprised with some fresh blooms - it might be predictable - but flowers don't always have to be the same old, same old. Say hi to Prestige Flowers - the answer to your bloom blues.

THE NEW L'OREAL INFALLIBLE PRIMERS - 'REVERSE DUPES'

loreal infallible primer shots review dupes comparison mattifying lumizing

loreal infallible primer shots review dupes comparison pore refining shaping stick foundation
If you spotted my recent drugstore haul post, (if not, read it here) you'll know that I picked up three of the brand new L'oreal Infallible Primer Shots. I chose the pore refining, mattifying and luminizing primers and over the past week using them I've been mentally pairing them all up to high end primers I already know and love. I know that seems a little odd - because usually a 'dupe,' is a cheap version of an expensive product, so I'm calling this 'reverse duping.' However, if you do love any of the high end primers in this post and are looking for a cheaper alternative or maybe just something you don't feel using everyday - you're welcome.

ABH X AMREZY AND NEW MATTE BRONZERS (+ SWATCHES)

abh x amrezy highlighter review
Unless you've been living under a rock, you're probably aware of this hugely anticipated launch from Anastasia Beverly Hills. The launch saw the introduction of many new products, and although I didn't get the hyped up Soft Glam palette to add to my collection (but I will get it, trust me.) I did pick up two of the new bits. I was so crazy about this new highlighter, like I was sitting at my computer all day refreshing the website waiting for it to go live and my heart sped up at checkout in pure relief that I managed to get in line quick enough.

nyx worth the hype mascara review pictures before and after
Today marks the release of the new mascara from NYX, say hello to Worth The Hype. This mascara promises volumizing and lengthening and will cost you less than a Domino's pizza. I've been using this mascara prior to its release, so I can tell you if it's really 'worth the hype,' or something you shouldn't fret about missing out on.

NEW IN AT THE DRUGSTORE + FIRST IMPRESSIONS

best drugstore primers
One piece of feedback I'm always getting is that you all want more drugstore/affordable products in my content, I used to be such a makeup snob i’ll admit that (and | still kind of am,) but honestly thanks to the recommendations from other bloggers last year I found some real gems that made me realise I didn't need a £30 primer everyday.  That being said, I certainly don't get the same excitement and buzz buying drugstore products than I do with high end, there’s something about spending too much money on pretty make up that just makes me feel fulfilled and ecstatic. But, I want to give the people what they want and make my content relateable for everyone, low budget or high - hence forth this drugstore haul.

WHAT'S IN MY LUSH STASH

lush bath bombs sensitive skin
With Christmas gone, I’m well kitted out with a stash of Lush goodies to see me through several pamper evenings. And to be honest, Lush products are my favourite thing to photograph and edit so it was kind of compulsory to create a post - everyone loves a Lush post, (right?) Oh and of course the typical Instagram boomerangs every time I have a bath. #Guilty.

LIVING HEALTHIER BY OVERCOMING VICES

One of the most important things in life is your health. You can’t properly look after the people in your family without being at the top of your game, you can’t set the right example you your children, plus, bad health can easily mean that they lose you long before they should. Being healthy can be tough in this day and age, where fast food joints are dotted about, and it’s so easy to get caught up with horrible habits like drinking and smoking. Even vegans have to make sure that our diets are full of the healthy choices; you can get vegan chocolate, cookies and cake y’know.

HOW TO KEEP LIVING THE 'GLAM' LIFESTYLE

We must admit that in order to experience some of the best-reviewed products here and to maybe even craft a beautiful blog of your own, some investment must be made in time, money and self-awareness. The glam lifestyle is one that has fun at its core. We all love looking and feeling good from day to day, but if the core components of what makes this worthwhile are knocked out of balance, then it can be difficult for people to find utility in it.

A MULTI-TASKING MIRACLE

Sunday Riley blue moon cleansing balm
I'm not sure if I've spoke about this before, but if not - that's crazy. You're looking at my ultimate skincare saviour, if you have dry, dehydrated, irritated, sensitive skin - you might just adore this as much as I do. (Don't let the price tag put you off, I promise it's worth it.)

LOOK GOOD, FEEL BETTER

barbie x missguided silky striped dressing gown
Appearances might only go skin deep, but the effects your outer image has on your mentality can be a lot deeper. The whole reason why people spend time on their hair, makeup, on selecting clothes or picking the right cut for their face shape, is because it makes them feel better. No one spends time and money on these material things to please someone else. (Do they?) We do it because it makes us feel happy. And no matter your mental state, how can that be anything but a good thing? Somebody might tell you that you look beautiful in your frumpiest clothing, when your hair is in need of a wash, and there are bags under your eyes, and they would be telling the truth. But that doesn’t mean that you automatically feel it.

LUXURY MAKE UP HAUL + FIRST IMPRESSIONS

Ok, so I had a major case of the January blues/post Christmas blues a few days ago. Honestly, since Christmas ended I've felt really low, drained, no motivation, I haven't been able to get out of bed for whole days - my mood really took a battering. And you know what cheers me up and gets me excited? Shopping. Some people get drunk, I like to buy make-up. (I also bought an iPad Pro but lets not talk about that...) Anyway, I went into Debenhams without any intention of buying a thing, but I came out with three new make up products and over one hundred pound down - do I hate myself or do I love myself? I'm not sure. Damn you persuasive high end make up counter women.

URBAN DECAY ALL NIGHTER CONCEALER REVIEW

urban decay all nighter concealer review
I absolutely adore the Urban Decay All Nighter Foundation, so when I heard they were releasing the matching concealer I just had to get my hands on it. I picked mine up on release day in light neutral, (the shade range is huge by the way!) If I'm honest, I bought this in such a hurry and on such a hype without reading much into it first, the gorgeous packaging definitely reeled me in - because honestly I've never seen such a good looking concealer.

ZOELLA BEAUTY 'SNOWELLA' (WINTER 17) REVIEW

zoella bath and body products review snowella scent winter 2017
I didn't pick up anything in the big Boxing Day sales, but when I went into my local Superdrug for a box of hair dye and saw the Zoella Treasure Me box for only £20 (it was £40,) I couldn't say no. I know, I know, as a 20 year old I should not be fan girling and buying Zoella beauty sets - but here I am, doing it anyway, because honestly this product range smells amazing. It's sort of my guilty pleasure if you will. I'd previously tried products from the 'Snowella,' scented Winter collection and loved them, so I jumped at the chance to get them all over again, full sized and in a huge attractive box that I'm now using to store my hair products in. (Looks great in my bedroom by the way.)
