Why I Wear And Love Make-Up

The one thing I hate about the whole beauty industry is the stigma surrounding it, which is that people 'love themselves', or 'think they're beautiful,' but is there really anything wrong with that?
Are we expected as a 'norm' to hate ourselves and dislike how we look?

I can imagine some people find it ridiculous that everyday for work, (in which I sit in an office all day alone) I apply a full face of make-up which takes about 90 minutes, including false lashes everyday, lip liner, eyeshadow, the works.
I'm not trying to impress anyone, I certainly do not 'love' myself or think I'm everything, in fact it's the complete opposite, and when I have a full face of make-up on, I feel a million times better.
Make-up is an art and a creative outlet, I've always been a creative person but I was never really good at painting or drawing or the usual things you think about when you say art, so make-up is the only creative outlet that I have and can do well. It makes me happy, I love searching for it, looking at it, creating looks, applying it, using technique, it's exactly like painting, you start with your blank canvas and apply whatever you want, how you want.

I believe everyone in this world has some kind of coping mechanism that gets them through a week, mine is that every Friday I'll get paid and I'll be able to buy new make-up products, some people get excited about going out clubbing or seeing friends or taking part in hobbies, but friends I've never had many of and hobbies aren't my thing.

Make-up is my war paint, it makes me feel more confident, it makes me feel braver and less paranoid, I can match my make-up to my mood, my outfit, the weather, it's such a versatile art that is both fun, exciting and it's one of the rare things in life that have no rules.

  1. I'm totally the same - I love the art of makeup and always wear a full face (although I don't wear lashes as they irritate my eyes haha!). I feel so much more confident when my makeup is on point! xx

Great post - I love expressing myself through makeup! It gives me a new layer of confidence which I wouldn't have otherwise and I love experimenting and changing my look

  4. I love this post - I totally agree that there is too much stigma around makeup, with people saying things like "guys prefer a natural look", it's about time more people say "hey I don't wear makeup to impress anyone, so if guys prefer a natural look, then good for them, I don't care"
